The Philosophy
The Oceans Edge began with a simple question: what would a property look like if every design decision was made in service of light, space, and natural calm?
The answer, arrived at over many months of consideration, was a row of six independent A-frame structures, each opening onto the garden and pool through floor-to-ceiling glass. Symmetry as a form of respect for the landscape. A brand new property, built with intention and finished with care.
Located at 388 Galle Road in Hikkaduwa, the property sits between the vibrant surf town and the ancient walls of Galle — with private beach access, a sea turtle sanctuary nearby, and Dodanduwa train station just 2 km away.
Glass & Light
The decision to use floor-to-ceiling glass on every chalet was not aesthetic — it was philosophical. Light changes the character of a space more completely than any furniture or fabric. At dawn, the east light enters low and warm through the glass panels, tracking across the room as the morning passes. By midday, the brightness is diffuse. By evening, the glow of the hanging light installations reflects softly in the glass, creating a warmth that belongs to that hour alone.
Form & Nature
The A-frame form was chosen for its visual dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The triangular rooflines echo the profiles of the coconut palms that line the property. The structures are not imposing — they emerge from the ground with a lightness that makes them feel grown rather than built. From a distance, the six chalets read as a single, symmetrical composition. Up close, each reveals its own character.
The Pool & Garden
The 40-foot pool was positioned at the heart of the property — flanked by all six chalets and framed by tropical palms — to become the natural gathering place without ever feeling crowded. Its still surface reflects the open sky on quiet mornings. The surrounding garden, designed with the same restraint as the architecture, creates a green boundary between the built world and the beach access path beyond.

Dodanduwa sits on one of the most beautiful and undervisited stretches of Sri Lanka's Southern Coast.
At 388 Galle Road, Hikkaduwa, the property is forty-five minutes from Galle Fort (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and ten minutes from the surf and cafés of Hikkaduwa. Dodanduwa train station is 2 km away, a sea turtle sanctuary is within walking distance, and private beach access is steps from your door.
